Streetlight not working? How to help make our local roads and pavements safer at night!


Please report a non-working streetlight to Wiltshire Council. to make our local roads and pavements safer at night. That is exactly what Jim Platt did this week.


As he returned home from Bell Ringing Practice on a dark December evening, Jim noticed that a couple of street lights along Stratford Road weren't working.


Did you know that Wiltshire Council has allocated a reference number to each street light, to make it easier to report their exact location? Jim returned in daylight to make a note of the numbers and reported the problem to Wiltshire Council using the MyWiltshire Reporting System: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/mywilts-online-reporting


Not the lights reported but the image below is here to show where to find the reference numbers as viewed from the highway (take care!). Newer posts have a clear reference number whilst others are less clear.

In 2020 the sodium street lights in Stratford sub Castle were replaced by LED lighting. Jane Court of the Local History Group investigated why there were so many different types of the new lights installed along Stratford Road. Her findings are here:
