Avon Valley Nature Reserve - I took the path less travelled by....*
Now that the groundwater has drained away and the paths have dried out along the walking route from Stratford sub Castle to Five Rivers Leisure Centre through the eastern part of the Avon Valley Nature Reserve, the route is walkable without wellingtons! Some of the scrub-land has been cleared by volunteers from the Salisbury Wildlife Group who manage the Reserve, leaving open areas where swathes of bluebells and cowslips are in flower. Waters Road reopened today
Waters Road was re-opened to traffic earlier today, Wednesday 1 April. Note: There are still some signs indicating that there is a road closure but these refer to Fairfield Road. This brings to an end the extra traffic using the Diversion route through Stratford sub Castle leading to Phillips Lane, around the Beehive roundabout and southwards down Castle Road. The R12 bus had its own diversionary route via Victoria Road and will now resume its normal route via Waters Road.

Old Castle Road closure 30 March - 2 April for resurfacing
If you use this route to access the Castle Hill Country Park, Ford, or further afield, note that it will be closed for resurfacing from Monday 30 March to Thursday 2 April. Expect delays along Castle Road on 30 & 31 March as there will be temporary two-way traffic lights on Castle Road to provide safe access for maintenance vehiciles.

Traffic lights by church/Reading Room Friday 6 March
This work has now been completed and the cones and traffic lights have been taken away by Wessex Water. Today cones were placed near to the Reading Room on Stratford Road to advise 'No Waiting' in this area. Pot Hole repairs in Stratford require temporary Traffic lights 9/10 April
The road surface on Stratford Road around the area shown on the map image is due to be repaired by Wiltshire Council on 9/10 April. One Network provides details of expected works and the current information includes the information that traffic lights will be in operation to control traffic. Damaged sign reported to MyWiltshire over two years ago, STILL not repaired
As this sign has still not been repaired, a request for a review/update has been submitted using the MyWiltshire app. 17 March 2025. Footpath News
Repairs have recently been made to the footpath near Mill Lane pedestrian bridge. A request for an improvement was made in April 2024 using the MyWiltshire app. The path had sunk in places and groundwater was not draining away, making the path impassable at times.
