August update on the Salisbury River Park Project

7 August 2024 - extension to the existing boardwalk

7 August 2024

When walking from Stratford along the boardwalk through the Avon Valley Nature Reserve, although there is still a pedestrian diversion to Coldharbour Lane, there are revealing views of the work in progress that will provide bridges and raised boardwalk extensions leading southwards to Ashley Road and the Five Rivers Leisure Centre. The intention is to open this section in September (see below).

In their August update the scheme's contractors Keir say:

"The River Park project is moving closer to completion with several further elements due to be finalised over the course of the next month.

At the Central Car Park, the final tarmac layers will go onto the footpaths and all the remaining seating will be installed. The intention is for the remaining paths to open to the public around the end of August. This will just leave the final landscaping areas to complete.

With the Central Car Park works completing the focus will shift to completing works at Ashley Road/Fisherton Rec. The final earthworks are almost complete and the boardwalks are being finalised. The main footpath works will be able to commence with the intention of having these open in September.

The Multi use games area should be completed this month, with the play area being completed in September. The remaining works will then just be the final landscaping works, with the final tree planting work due to take place over this winter. This will include replacing any trees that have already been planted, but unfortunately not taken."
