Contractors for Wiltshire Council have resurfaced the pavement on the west side of Stratford Road between Castle Keep and Mill Lane and have now left the area.
The 'tarmac mountain' on the verge at the entrance to St Lawrence Close is gradually being taken away.
It is not known when the remaining works to the pavement up to the school and the Reading Room, plus the pavement on the opposite side of the road will be similarly resurfaced. When OneNetwork was checked (the information source for works registered by Wiltshire Council), there was no information of work resuming.
Temporary traffic lights had controlled a one-way traffic system on sections of Stratford Road, operating only whilst the work force were actually on site, and removing them each evening/night-time.
A local resident fell on an uneven section of pavement near Castle Keep last winter, resulting in a broken wrist.
The tarmac removed from the pavements was stored on the verge near the entrance to St Lawrence Close.
