Original News post of 8 September
This was the scene (image right) on Old Sarum at 7.30 pm last evening. Around 50 people (not all in this shot) gazed eastwards from the outer bailey of Old Sarum hillfort, anticipating the much-hyped lunar eclipse.
We waited. And waited. In the distance the headlights of a tractor in a field near Ford repeatedly appeared and disappeared as the vehicle was driven up and down a field.
Camera lenses misted over as the temperature dropped and a bank of cloud formed, obscuring the all-important position in the sky from where the moon would rise. Many people started to leave, no doubt disappointed.
Patience, however, paid off. The clouds cleared and at last there was a view of the moon still partially obscured and not red as the media reports had suggested it might be.

This was the view from Old Sarum looking towards Cockey Down, Laverstock.
