The Friends of St Lawrence next fundraising talk will be on Friday 24 October at 7.30 pm in the Reading Room, Stratford Road SP1 3LL, opposite St Lawrence Church. Tickets are now available.

Tobias Ellwood (pictured here when he was the MP for Bournemouth), is a former British Army Officer, senior UK parliamentarian and now a writer and commentator on National Security & Foreign Policy issues.

As a former Foreign Minister, Defence Minister and Chair of the House of Commons Defence Committee he’s been at the forefront in helping to shape and critique UK security and foreign policy –  in ever increasingly turbulent times.

He has chosen for the title of his talk on Friday 24 October,  “10 steps to avoid world war three!”

During his time in frontline politics, he met Heads of State and senior officials from around the world, addressed international summits and attended COBRA & National Security Council meetings here in the UK.

Twice in his life he had to confront terrorism. Firstly, losing his brother in the Bali Bombings in 2002 and secondly his involvement in the Westminster Bridge attacks in 2017. These experiences have very much influenced his political outlook and focus. In all the work he now does there’s a common theme of encouraging Britain to play a greater leadership role, as our world enters a dark and ever more complex chapter.

Tickets for this event are now available: £10 for FOSL members, £15 for non-members. After the talk there will be an opportunity to socialise with a glass of wine or a soft drink, which is included in the ticket price.
