There is still a flood warning covering Stratford sub Castle. After the photo above was taken, traffic cones were placed in the groundwater that partly covered Stratford Road near Castle Keep. By the morning of Thursday 12 February, the water had drained away and the cones removed.

Local river water levels can be checked on a daily basis.

Note that Amesbury is the nearest station upstream of Stratford sub Castle and Ashley Road is the nearest station downstream.

News from the Environment Agency:

Updated 11:57am on 11 February 2026

The groundwater level at Stoford Cross borehole remains high, and is expected to remain high over the next few days. Areas that could be affected include: Avon Valley including Amesbury, Great Durnford, Upper Woodford, Middle Woodford and Lower Woodford.

Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. Residents may experience inundation of septic tanks and sewer systems. Properties may experience flooding in cellars in affected areas. Flooding of roads is expected. We are closely monitoring the situation. If you have a pump, make sure it is working and switched on. Think about alternative power sources in case of power cuts.
