As highlighted in an earlier newspost, drivers should be aware that the bus lane lettering has not yet been fully reinstated. This is confusing drivers - in particular visitors to our city - who will assume all these lanes are available to all traffic.

"Thank you for your follow up email of 24 August 2026. Having looked into this further, we can confirm that a lining crew returned to site on 21 August 2026 to reinstate the bus lane markings and complete as much of the remaining lining work as possible within the available road closure. However, the "BUS LANE" wording itself requires a specialist hand-lining crew, and unfortunately this element couldn't be completed at the time as specialist resource was unavailable.
We weren't aware of this when responding to your previous enquiry and incorrectly assumed that the wording had also been reinstated. We're sorry for providing inaccurate information, it wasn't our intention to misinform you.
We've attached a drawing (Ed: see image below) which identifies the markings that have already been completed in pink. The remaining road markings, including the bus lane wording, are currently programmed to be reinstated during closures on 10 and 13 October 2026.
Unfortunately, we're restricted by the availability of suitable road space due to other works taking place within the local network, this limits the opportunities to safely close the roundabout and undertake the remaining works. That said, should an earlier opportunity become available, we'll look to complete the outstanding markings before these dates.
We appreciate that the current situation isn't ideal, and note your concerns regarding the potential for confusion and the associated safety implications. Please be assured that your comments have been shared with the project team and that the outstanding lining works will be completed as soon as reasonably possible.
