Castle Road northbounds has now been re-opened :)

The trenches have been filled in and double yellow lines repainted, cones collected.

The northbound lane of Castle Road has been re-opened.......

Castle Road was still closed to northbound traffic on Saturday 24 February. There are still some trenches to be filled in but no work force in sight. The SGN website hasn't been updated to confirm (or otherwise) that the road will reopen on Monday, as scheduled.

News from 21 February

Phase 2 with two-way traffic using the southbouund lanes was due to be in operation by 18 February (see schedule further down this page).

BUT IT IS NOT. No traffic could enter the A345 Castle Road northwards from Castle Roundabout when the junction was last checked on 24 February. So the diversion still applies.

News from 5 February

The northbound lane of Castle Road between Castle Roundabout and Butts Road will be closed between 5 February - 25 February whilst a gas main is replaced.

During the first phase 5-17 February, two lanes will remain open to traffic travelling south but no traffic will be able to travel northwards. During the second phase, the two normally south-bound lanes will be opened up to two-way traffic.

An official diversion will be marked via the A360, A303, and A345 (estimated to add 40 mins to the journey). Official details in the Wiltshire Council notice copied in full at the bottom of this page.

However, Salisbury Reds website has published details of a much shorter local diversion that its buses will be using, along St Marks Avenue, Somerset Road and Devonshire Road :

"R12 (Salisbury to Stratford Bridge service)

After Milford Hall Hotel, journeys which normally operate direct via Castle Road and Stratford Road will be subject to the above diversion, and will use Waters Road to resume normal route from Hathaway Close. Stops between Castle Road Roundabout and Hudson Road will not be served."

  • Castle Road will be closed from the A36 heading northbound

  • The West side of Castle Roundabout remains open

  • Access to the A345 Castle Road northbound will be closed – follow the signed diversion route

  • Bus routes will be affected - please contact your service provider for changes to services, routes and timetables

Phase two: Saturday 17 to Monday 26 February

We'll be working along Castle Road with one lane closure – southbound lanes will be made two way.

We're sorry for the inconvenience our work may cause.
