US Army Air Forces (USAAF) Photographic Reconnaissance units photos from 1943-4

As announced by the BBC this morning, 3,600 aerial photos taken by the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) Photographic Reconnaissance units in 1943-4 have been added to the Historic England library of aerial photographs available on line. The closest of these to Stratford sub Castle is of Middle and Lower Woodford, and Little Durnford.

The Luftwaffe were closer and in September 1940 took this aerial photo of Old Sarum (airfield) and Stratford sub Castle.
