The extract below taken from the Salisbury Riverpark Scheme's December Newsletter, explains the weather conditions that have resulted in our local fields being flooded, some footpaths near the Avon being underwater, and the temporary closure of the boardwalk:
"The recent heavy rain has resulted in some high flows which are particularly unusual for this time of year, and more representative of what we expect from January to March. The flows in early November were the highest ever recorded for this time of year in the 60 years of records kept by the Environment Agency. These flows are slowly reducing but are still two to three times greater than expected for this time of year."
Work on the Riverpark Scheme has stopped for a Christmas break.
