A dog attacked the sheep currently fattening up in the Parsonage Farm field below Old Sarum. It was early today, (Tuesday April 9th) around 6 am and one sheep subsequently had to be put down.
In February one dog killed (or injured so they subsequently had to be put down), 45 sheep on Dartmoor. The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust sheep at the Devenish have in the past suffered dog attack.
The Countryside Code gives advice and the National Sheep Association and Wiltshire Police provide leaflets on sheep worrying (see bottom of this page). The Police supported the national campaign Operation Recall that ran March 27th to April 3rd. Their website reminds us that dog owners can face a criminal prosecution and up to a £1000 fine.
Find out more about livestock worrying and how to report it on the Wiltshire Police website:

or call 101 after an occurrence.”
