Flood Alert for groundwater flooding in the Salisbury Plain area updated 25 March

RW

The scene from Mill Lane bridge on 25 March - the bench had been surrounded by water on 24 February. Despite water levels falling, the Flood Alert issued by the Environment Agency remains in force. Updated details below.

Stratford sub Castle is included in the Salisbury Plain area for the purpose of flood alerts.

The Environment Agency has made regular updates to the initial alert that was published on 28 November 2024 and which is still in force.

"Updated 6:44pm on 25 March 2025

Groundwater levels are slowly falling, but remain over the flood alert thresholds. Areas at risk include areas around the Till and the Wylye Valley. Flooding of roads and fields is possible. There is no significant rainfall forecast this week.

We are not currently expecting very much drop in the groundwater levels. Where groundwater is near the surface, intense rainfall will lead to surface water flooding. Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.

This message will be updated by 05:00 PM on 02/04/2025, or as the situation changes."

Flood alert area: Boscombe, Cholderton, Collingbourne Ducis, Hanging Langford, Hindon, Hurdcott, Idmiston, Newton Tony, Orcheston, Porton, Salisbury, Shipton Bellinger, Shrewton, Stratford Sub Castle, Tidworth, Tilshead, Tisbury, Wilton, Winterbourne Stoke and Woodford."

UPDATE - When SALS9 was walked on 10 March, the groundwater had cleared, leaving just a little mud that was passable in trainers - wellingtons no longer needed!
