Some 3 or 4 years ago, a Mill Lane resident was awoken at 3 am one morning by a loud banging noise. He left his home to investigate and found two youths in the act of damaging the bridge with a sledge hammer. Wiltshire Council attended the next day and took the salvageable coping stones away to await a scheduled repair. It was to be a long wait.
On Thursday 15 February 2024 a maintenance team from Wiltshire Council arrived to replace the coping stones.
Within an hour or so of the repair being completed some of the coping stones were knocked away again. Fortunately the working team were still close by and promptly carried out a second repair.
