Frances Nisbet is perhaps better known as Frances, Viscountess Nelson, wife of Admiral Horatio Nelson, whom she married in 1787 when she was a young widow, only 25 years of age.

​

She was born in Nevis, a small island in the West Indies. There she met and married in 1779, Josiah Nisbet, a doctor who brought her to Salisbury. He died 2 years later aged 34, leaving her with a young son also named Josiah.
