I was woken at 6.20 am today by a text message sent by someone not in my contacts list:
"Hi XXX (edited) this is my new number. Text me or whatsapp " It also included a link to click which is not (for obvious reasons) copied to this post.
Alarm bells rang.
Consider:
No sender's name.
Clicking on a link is a definite no-no.
May not be the exact words used in the msg quoted above, but similar.
Would you normally expect to receive a txt msg at this time of day?
If you think a text like this might be genuine, then contact your friends/family by other means.

Hint to remember this - the digits spell SPAM on a mobile phone keypad.
A long press on the text message opens a menu which includes 'Forward'.
