The Government will be testing the 'Emergency Alert' system on Sunday 7 September at 3 pm. This 'test' will be in the form of a notification message sent out to all 4G & 5G mobile phones and some tablet devices.

An emergency alert looks and sounds very different to other types of messages - you’ll hear a loud, siren-like sound and your phone or tablet will vibrate.

The test is not intended to alert you to real danger and you will not need to take any further action.

It is suggested that you make a note of the timing of this test message in case:

you plan to be driving at that time, as it might be distracting;

you are in a public venue when the altert sounds with multiples devices receiving the notification at the same time.

If you know a vulnerable person who may not be aware of this 'Test', please discuss it with them before Sunday 7 September, so that they are not confused or alarmed.
