Dress up for the Jubilee

Hope you are all looking forward to celebrating the Queen's Jubilee and will enjoy getting together with friends old and new at the Reading Room on Sunday 5 June.

The Guild is delighted to be sponsoring the Fancy Dress competition, which will be part of the early afternoon programme. We are keen for adults to join in, as well as children of all ages. There will be prizes, but remember the old adage “It is not the winning that matters, but the taking part”, so please do dress up and make this part of the celebratory fun for all.

The theme, rather unsurprisingly, is “The Queen's Jubilee” and we would encourage you to interpret this as loosely as your imagination permits. Of course, you could dress as her majesty or any members of her family – living or dead; but you could represent any of the monumental historical figures or events that have featured during her long reign; or maybe you have a personal connection that you want to celebrate – let your imagination roam, but please join in and take part.

Please let me know if you are planning to enter the competition – all I need is your name and the age of anyone under 18 years old. Don't worry if you haven't decided who or what to represent yet, I don't need those details until just before the judging. Just put your name down now, and worry about the details later.

News - on 27 March 2022

Plans are on track for our village event to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Two decent-sized marquees have been ordered in case of rain (it will be June after all) but we are hoping for bright sunshine so that they can provide much needed shade.

The displays in the Reading Room and the Fancy Dress competition plans are progressing well. If any of our readers would like to offer a garden game for the event, there will be plenty of room in the churchyard and we'd appreciate a wider village involvement.

The June edition of the Parish Magazine will contain a pull-out centre-spread which will be the programme for the day. But remember that tickets will need to be bought so that we can keep track of numbers and to enter the free raffle - details to follow.

Stratford’s Platinum Jubilee Plans - news on 26 February 2022

As promised last month, here are more details about the plans for celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday June 5th. Note that our ideas remain fluid and can be expected to change over the coming weeks.

The celebration will take place in the Reading Room, Car Park and the Churchyard. Villagers and friends are invited to bring a picnic along from 12 noon with hot and cold drinks and cakes provided by the Café team. The Cinnamon Jazz Group will provide a pleasant, unobtrusive acoustic ambiance. If you came to the picnic in 2021 you’ll know how enjoyable their music is.

That is not all however. There will be a Fancy Dress competition (possibly for adults as well as children) and games and other activities will be provided in the car park. The Reading Room will host small displays by our local organisations and there may well be other interesting displays to enjoy. In addition, there will be short guided tours of the Church and the Commonwealth War Graves.

For those folk unable to walk to the event, clearly marked parking will be available in the field opposite Prebendal House and traffic marshals will ensure that crossing the road is safe.

In order to cover the costs there will be a small charge for adults and each ticket will be entered in a free raffle.

Stratford's Village Picnic to celebrate the Jubilee is all set for Sunday 5 June from 12 noon until 4 pm.

Bring your own picnic and chairs and join your neighbours and friends in marking HM The Queen's remarkable reign of 70 years!

Do make sure you buy a ticket in advance because attendance numbers will be limited and the Café group need to know how much Jubilee cake needs to be baked!

Car parking nearby will be provided in a field next to Gradidge Lane by kind permission of Richard Griffiths, leaving the Reading Room car park and garden free, where marquees and gazebos will be erected. 'Cinnamon Jazz Group' has been booked and the Guild will be sponsoring a Fancy Dress competition - details.

Inside the Reading Room the Stratford Cafés group will be serving cakes and drinks. There will be a repeating slide-show of images of Stratford 'Past & Present' and our village organisations will have publicity displays.

St Lawrence Church and churchyard will be open and free guided tours are planned. There will be a variety of ‘Fun' activities at the event.

To help towards costs, Tickets are £5 for adults. There will not be a charge for under 16's (who must be accompanied) but children will be issued with a free ticket. All ticket-holders can claim a free cake and drink and will be entered into a Prize Draw. Ticket details in the poster.
