A fire engine with flashing blue lights and sounding its siren had difficulty passing through Stratford sub Castle around 8.45 this morning to attend the scene of an overturned van on the Woodford Road near Avon Farm.
As the fire appliance approached, stationary cars facing south were being held up by the temporary traffic lights and the road was further narrowed by parked cars on the opposite side of Stratford Road. Some drivers helpfully reversed to allow the emergency vehicle through.
A report from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service indicated that by the time the crew arrived at the accident scene, the driver of the van together with 8 dogs had escaped unhurt from the vehicle.
This road has previously been labelled a 'Black Spot' for single-vehicle accidents, leading to Wiltshire Council improving the road surface and installing warning signs. More details in these earlier News articles:
