Hedging has been planted along the fence between the car park and the Reading Room to help soften the line of the fence. Looking little more than sticks at the moment, hopefully it will quickly expand into a native hedge, providing an attraction for birds, bees and butterflies. Species planted include hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, field maple, guelder rose, wayfaring tree, ramanas rose, field rose and dog rose.
Digging the trench also meant digging into the wall foundations of a building which was on the site before the Reading Room was built, hence the bricks in this photo.
