Mudge's stone re-erected

The commemorative stone on the A345 Castle Road that marks a base-line taken during the surveying of the area around Old Sarum by Lieutenant William Mudge in the 18th century, was knocked over by a vehicle in November 2018 and has been out-of-sight since then.

The stone was re-erected by Salisbury City Council's ground team in January 2020.

Mudge went on to become the first Director-General of Ordnance Survey. More details here: https://www.stratfordsubcastle.org.uk/local-history
