The Stratford Singers are a group of friends living in Stratford and carrying on the long-standing tradition of singing carols at Christmas to raise money for charities, one half goes to Save the Children and the other to a local charity decided each year. Starting usually on December 1st, many kind and generous hostesses arrange parties at their homes and the Singers turn up at an appropriate time to sing carols with their guests. We visit 13 or more venues, with a bumper number of guests raising the roof of David and Mary's forge to conclude our carol singing on 23rd December.
The Stratford Singers started in 1963 and has continued without a break, which means we celebrate our 50th Anniversary this year. When so invited, we also sing at weddings, baptisms and funerals and any other special occasions. We number 14 although usually about 10 of us turn up at the different houses since we don't like to overwhelm hostess or guests and this works very well.
If anyone reading this loves to sing and can spare the time around Christmas, then please do contact Daphne Ponsford on Salisbury 328585.
