The phased repairs to the streetlights that were vandalised in November have now been completed. Some of the lamps have been fitted with new-style LED light fittings that have integral mirrors to reflect white  light down onto the road. The majority of the lights in Stratford Road are the often-critised sodium lights that appear to light up the sky when viewed from afar, giving an orange-coloured 'halo' to built-up areas.

The contractor commented that Wiltshire Council has a plan to replace all its sodium lights with the LED-type in the coming year.

Image shows both types of light unit: on the left LED-type; on the right orange sodium.
