Stratford Bridge to Salisbury bus service escapes cuts

The number 12 orange bus operated by Wheelers Travel is a familiar sight in the village from Monday morning through to Saturday lunch-time.  It provides a valued service into Salisbury for many residents who do not drive and for those who choose to avoid adding to congestion in the busy city centre.

Early in 2016, comment forms were handed out to bus travellers as part of a Wiltshire Council public consultation on bus services.  Changes to the services on some routes seemed inevitable.

Cuts to some local services have just been announced but fortunately the number 12 service will not be affected.

However, the 5 service that passes down Castle Road close to the EH Old Sarum site has been affected.  It has been a useful link on Sundays, as a short walk down the Portway path from Castle Road leads directly into Stratford sub Castle.  That service will be withdrawn on Sundays and Public Holidays effective 26 March.
